Ok folks, I know I've spoken to many of you about helping out with the testing and the proofing of the books, and I apologize for asking you to reach out again, but I need to organize this all some way, so if you are interested in proofing /testing our future releases, I'd really appreciate it if you would reply to this post and let me know

1. What OS(es) you use,
2. What ereader you use, and
3. What (if any) intermediate software (like Calibre) you use.

We'll give a dozen or so of you with a good diversity of devices access to the books a week or so early, so that we can sort out any issues before release.

Cool?

1. Ubuntu (Linux)
2. Kindle 4 no Touch, and my wife has a Sony PRS-350 I also can test on.
3. Calibre for managing my library.

Speaking of this: the v1.3 ePub does not work on the PRS-350 (page error). And the page margins are uneven. I just sent you a mail about it.

I'm willing to do additional proofreading after an initial pass. Preferably not to tight deadlines.

I would prefer to be able to type corrections and comments directly into a document. It can be very time consuming to put the corrections in a separate document / email as have to work out what page problem is on, describe location and problem then finally give the correction / comments.

So preferably woiuld be able to view the electronic text, type in correction / comments in place in a form that is easily located by the editor later, e.g. change tracking. Ideally to be easily able to swap to original scan of the document to check it then back to electronic version again.

1 Windows XP
2 PDF (for ebook version)
3 None

1. Windows 7/Ubuntu 12.04
2. Usually .pdf or Kindle for PC (debating between a Kindle Fire and a real tablet for buying later in the year)
3. None

Finding a way to hard-code corrections/comments directly on the document would be a great idea; otherwise dealing with different display and font sizes makes pinpointing the errors a headache.

1. Mac OS X
2. Nook, Kindle, iPad, iPhone
3. Calibre, iTunes, Espresso (& other code editors)

I do ePub creation professionally but would LOVE to volunteer to help out. I've already made several spelling and formatting corrections to the current book. Let me know if you could use my help!

By the way, I'm not sure what format you currently edit, but I find that working in HTML as a base and then fixing device eccentricities from there is a very efficient method. Would love to discuss it if I make the cut.

Re: Volunteer Here! 9 months ago #12

Assuming the class is still open?

1) Windows 7
2) Nook Simple Touch or Sony PRS-500
3) None, really. I know what the word "calibre" means, but that's about it.
