I'm not sure if or how this is doable, and there are other issues on the site to work out first (and keep in mind I'm a lawyer not a webdev by trade, so this is not my core strength), but would you guys like the ability to have personal bookshelves on the site?

Ideally, I'd find a way to integrate Goodreads or something similar, or at least replicate the functionality, so that you all could "check in" to the books you have/have read, and discuss/comment on them.

This is more of a long term thing, but I'd like to know if it's a worthwhile addition, so if that sounds of interest speak up!

Re: Personal Libraries 1 year ago #2

If it was integrated from Goodreads, yes. If it was a separate entity that I would have to populate, I probably wouldn't use it.

Re: Personal Libraries 1 year ago #3

If it was integrated from Goodreads, definitely. I'd probably still use it if it was some stand-alone module, but I wouldn't look forward to re-entering all my library information. It's a great idea at the least.

Nice idea, I would probably use it to some extent.

Re: Personal Libraries 1 year ago #5

I'd like to see any kind of that functionality be able to import from Calibre (great for e-book management) and Book Collectorz (great for print book management) software, please

Re: Personal Libraries 1 year ago #6

I would definitely like it if it can integrate with Goodreads, as that's the main way I keep track of my reading. I'd be less enthused by a separate tracker. Calibre is nice, but it's not portable enough for my needs, as I often swap between a window's desktop, mac laptop, and android phone. Calibre, as far as I've ever figured out, only stores the info on your local system. The only use I have for Calibre is changing formats when a file is in a format other than what I want.

Re: Personal Libraries 1 year ago #7

FWIW, Calibre has a "server" mode where it serves up its content over the Internet.

I haven't investigated what's involved, but the capacity is there.

Hmm, hadn't thought about this.

I was thinking of doing something like figuring out how to use the goodreads api to let people link accounts and show booksheves from there.

I keep my calibre library inside my Dropbox folder; then my books are available wherever I need them.

I would definitely participate in something like this if it got implemented.

Personally, I'm not interested in signing up for yet-another-site to use such a feature.
